Multidisciplinary artist Bouthayna Al Muftah was chosen to design the official poster for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The result was a vibrant black and white image depicting traditional headwear (Ghutra) thrown playfully into the air with a football in a desert setting. The imagery in the poster represented multiple layers of Qatari heritage to Al Muftah, as her surroundings and culture deeply inspired her. She wanted her design to “bring something new to the global community, something from our [Qatari] culture that is rooted in our [Qatari] traditions to be shown and at the same time be welcomed.”
