Jassim Al Nasrallah

Jassim Al Nasrallah joined Liwan as a resident artist, bringing a contemporary approach to Islamic art and calligraphy. His practice explored the philosophy of Islamic art within modern contexts, bridging tradition with experimentation.

During his residency, Jassim developed a series of sculptural works inspired by themes of the sea and the desert, drawing from natural landscapes and cultural symbolism rooted in Qatar’s environment.

Jassim Al Nasrallah is an artist specializing in traditional Arabic calligraphy, applying the philosophy of Islamic art within contemporary contexts. Trained from the age of seven under his brother and later under Ayman Hassan, a student of Daoud Bektash, he mastered the Thuluth and Naskh scripts. His notable works include the Kuwait Opera House mural, the single-letter fountains at the Qatar National Museum, and the official Kuwait, Capital of Islamic Culture 2016 logo. Academically, he collaborated with Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Saqabi at Kuwait University on the research project Design Using Common Properties between Arabic Calligraphy and Architecture. His practice explores contemporary spirituality through the visual and philosophical traditions of Islamic art.
