Join us for our first Open Day of 2025 on Monday, 3 February, from 5-9 PM at Liwan and explore some of the latest multidisciplinary design experiments and innovative research projects across Qatar and presented in Liwan.

This Open Day has a host of exciting activations, exhibitions, workshops, and live entertainment.

All studios will also be open for visitors to explore the multitude of interesting design work that is taking place here, with our members and residents in attendance, including:

EXHIBITION:
Explore a new exhibition by Liwan member and fashion designer Nafisa Hafez titled ‘We are our Choices’.A film screening will accompany the exhibition, and there will be a Q&A session with the artist.

PUBLIC ART:
Two public art pieces will be unveiled: artist Natasha Fernandes will be showcasing her latest work, ‘Store – Away’, and artist Zein Eljabri will be revealing her work, titled ‘Embroidering Identity: Reviving Arabic Motifs’. A tour will be included.

WORKSHOPS:
The Open Day will include a host of free and paid workshops by Liwan members and residents:

  • Painter Seetha Menon will host a paid kid-friendly workshop on tote bag painting. You can book onsite 30 QAR
  • Resident and prototype specialist Norman Dipo will be hosting a free walk-in spiro graph workshop
  • Clay lab consultant Noora Al Melhim will be hosting a free walk-in clay-making workshop in Liwan’s backyard
  • Sculptor Fatima Javed will host a smoke-firing live show and paid workshop. You can book onsite.
  • Mangroves will host an ink workshop, ‘The Alchemy of Inks and Dyes’. You can book onsite 150 QAR
  • Fashion designer Ekhlas Elhassance will be displaying her collection of turbans, headbands, bows and abayas and will be hosting a paid workshop on headpiece-making

SHOWCASES:

  • Calligrapher Karim Jabbari’s mixed-media collaborative artwork will be showcased
  • Liwan member and interior designer Noora Alhenzab will be showcasing her latest installation, ‘One for All’, an interactive and traditional seating display
  • Liwan members Ewa Merchel and Soraya Sus will be displaying their clay work
  • Liwan resident Dunes and Dugongs will be opening their studio to showcase their design work and a mini-immersive exhibition that includes a poetry recording and a textile display. Kids friendly
  • And Design Doha will also open their doors for an exclusive sneak peek at the inspiring projects curated for Design Doha Biennale 2026. See what’s ahead, discover exciting programs, and find out how you can be part of this dynamic creative movement.   

OTHER FUN STUFF:

  • We will also be hosting a band on the bridge live performance with Heenat Salma.
  • Purchase zines from some of Doha’s coolest up-and-coming print designers. Liwan’s design publication, Al Journal, and Design Doha’s book, Arab Design Now, will be on sale.
  • There will be an interactive photography session backdrop.
