With 40 new public artworks installed in 2022, ranging from a light installation by Shilpa Gupta at Stadium 974, to a desert installation by Olafur Eliasson, Qatar has transformed into an outdoor museum experience. Many of these public art pieces have been installed as Qatar prepares to host the largest sporting event in the world, the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.
Join us for another iteration of Liwan Sessions, as we converse with Ahmed Albahrani, a renowned artist and sculptor, and Abdulrahman Al– Ishaq, the Director of Public Art at Qatar Museums. We will be discussing the relationship between sporting events and public art, while putting forth the question: what impact do public art pieces have on the public, institutions, artists and the upcoming World Cup?
