From Script to Stitch: Crafting Character Through Costume Design

This workshop introduces participants to the professional methodology used by designers to interpret scripts and create costumes that reflect character, mood, and narrative themes. With Sudanese costume designe Mohammed “Simba” Elmur.

Storyboarding = Storytelling

In this creative workshop, participants will create storyboards from script pages, discovering how storyboarding can shape storytelling , visually expressing pacing and transforming a script into a visual blueprint, improving communication, streamlining logistics, and saving significant time and money by allowing teams to plan shots, identify problems, and coordinate efforts before filming begins, ensuring a cohesive vision and efficient production.

The Alchemy of the Pitch: Designing for Investment

A collaborative workshop for filmmakers & designers with Tiny Mungwe, project development, strategy and financing and Amrita Bagchi, visual designer and storyteller, participants will walk away with professional pitch decks built to compete in the global market.

Sufra Studies: Part of the Experimental Lab - Routes and Roots. A hands-on exploration of how we sit, share and gather around food through the lens of Gulf traditions and contemporary design.

Liwan Craft Residency: Future Traditions and the New Authentic

A six-month immersive residency for designers and craftspeople based in Qatar. Through collaboration, research and experimentation, participants will explore the concept of reimagining the oasis and create forward-looking designs that honor the past while shaping the future.

A months long program hosted by Liwan in partnership with FROMM providing an immersive design experience for three selected Liwan members.

Residencies

Our residency program aims to cultivate local and regional designers through mentorship, collaboration with artisans, funding, studio access, and opportunities to exhibit at design Biennales and platforms. The various residencies at Liwan contribute to designers’ creative growth, with the intention of focusing on local production from concept to final product. We encourage designers and craftspeople to rely on locally sourced materials, production, and prototyping facilities and to be part of the growing design ecosystem that Qatar is developing.
