Al Journal Vol.1

The timely theme for our first issue of Al Journal is ‘Design in Pandemics’, a look at how designers have long responded to global epidemics from the Spanish flu to the most recent COVID-19 virus and the important role that design has played in curbing the spread of viruses.

The theme for our second issue of Al Journal is 'Sports and Design', a look at how design has been used to push the game to new levels. Discover the remarkable stories between sports and design, from stadium design to poster, logo, fashion, and tech and how design in sports has been used to bring global and local communities together.

The theme for our third issue of Al Journal is ‘Design and AI’, a look at the impact that AI has had on the design industry and how it is shaping its future, from groundbreaking innovations with positive outcomes to ethical and social concerns.

The theme for our fourth issue is archiving and design. Since Liwan is an archival project at heart, it is only fitting that the theme for our fourth and final issue of this year’s Al Journal is ‘Design and Archiving’, a look at the many forms of archiving, the power of this practice in visually preserving heritage and its importance in shaping the future of design in the region, from literature and lettering to architecture, community and culture.
